Blogger Matt Walsh published a very well-written article posted on The Blaze website titled “Maybe Christianity In America Is Dying Because It’s Boring Everyone To Death“. The article centered on the issue of many churches slipping into spiritual decay by trying to be culturally relevant and hip rather than be a gathering place for believers in Jesus Christ to worship God and hear Biblical teaching so that they be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
A new study completed by the Pew Research Center shows a decline in America of those who claim to be Christian from 78.4% to 70.6%. That said, a hard question I must ask is out of the 70.6% of people who state they are Christian in America, what percentage of those people are submitted to God and His Son Jesus Christ?
And how many will one day realize with horror, that they were deceiving themselves? Matthew 7:20-23
The Bible says that in the last days, there will be a great falling away from the faith (2 Thessalonians 2:3) and we will see the society quickly descend into self-centered depravity.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 states: But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
Note 2 Tim 3:4-5 states that people will be lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying it power. Are we seeing this description play out by many self-proclaimed “Christians” in America? The ones who seek after the self-help, positive thinking, prosperity style teaching that is prevalent in many churches rather than sound Biblical doctrine? (2 Timothy 4:3) Ones who think they are Christian by putting on the Sunday mask, acting the part, but deny God’s power by refusing to submit His Word and seek His Will in their lives?
As the apostle Paul stated, the end times that we are now living in are dangerous. It is not only dangerous in the physical world torn by war, earthquakes, and calamity but especially dangerous in the spiritual. While spiritual warfare has been waged throughout the ages, we are now on the precipice of one of the greatest battles of all time. Satan and his minions know that time is short and they will do all they can to drag as many human mortal souls to the pit of hell as possible.
As Christians, we must always be sober and vigilant because our advisory the devil roams around seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8
One of the devil’s main weapons that leads to spiritual decay is to use the dazzling effects of the three temptations of the world to blind people from the Truth revealed in God’s Word. Technology has provided a conduit for these worldly temptations like never before in the known history of mankind. Our culture is saturated with sexual lust, wealth lust, and power lust.
The Bible warns us to flee from such temptations. (1 Corinthians 6:18, 1 Corinthians 10:14, 1 Timothy 6:9-11)
So what are the signs of a “Biblical” Christian?
- A Christian is a person who believes in their heart what is written in John 3:16 and Romans 10:9-10 (highlight your cursor over the verses to view)
- A Christian knows that he/she is saved by Grace and not by his/her works Titus 3:5, Ephesians 2:8
- The mark of a true Christian is love for others and obedience to God’s Word John 14:24, 1 John 4:8, 1 John 2:4, 10, Matthew 28:20.
- A Christian believes that the whole Bible (66 books of the Canon) is the infallible, inspired Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:15-17. This is through faith and an objective investigative study of history, archeology, and anthropology. The student (disciple) will find that the Bible is completely accurate and lines up with every investigative discipline.
I did not type out what many of these verses were. I encourage you to find them yourself and read them. Acts 17:11, 2 Timothy 2:15.
Side note, for those of you who state you are Christian and yet think the Bible is an inaccurate, outdated collection of narrative legends, you are deceiving yourself and have a belief in a god made up by your own imagination. How can you know God and His will in your life if you do not trust and study His Word?
If your Church or Pastor does not teach that the Bible is the complete, authoritative Word of God (2 Tim 3:16), then it is time to find a Church that does.
May God bless you as you seek Him through Prayer and His Word, The Bible!
